For each interval, (1 is... 2 is...) the corresponding following 2 numbers (4 and 8, 3 and 7, etc) are your semitone keys. Just augment those (one semitone up) [if the keynote lets you] and VOILA!
Litany Code
1 is 4 and 8
2 is 3 and 7
3 is 2 and 6
4 is 1 and 5
5 is 7 and 4
6 is 6 and 3
7 is 5 and 2
(it's easy as Pi : just count 3 away from the last number and you have both semitone key locations)
So this trick will take you out of your "natural" keys which correspond predictably to an established Ionian root. It allows for much more creative and yet harmonically stable tinkering within a song. Each new set, which is really just the Ionian form of each natural key, can be further modified with minors, augmentations, tritones, and dominant/diminished moods. Finishing up such experimentation with a resolve to the natural key once again, and then through the circle of fifths back to the root note, is a beautiful time.
